GPS is the acronym for Global Positioning Systems
The functional canon of the GPS is using satellites in space such as referrece points for ground localization. By exact measuring of the distance between receiver and at least 4 satellites it can be determined the position of each point of the Earth (latitude, longitude, altitude). Normally, to determinate the position in 3D you need just 3 distances (3 satellites), because the method which is used is triangle. The fourth distance is determined for the minimized positioning errors. Each satellite has his own signal so that the receiver will know exactly about what satellite is talking, and the distance between satellite and receiver is calculated by timing. The information from the satellites can overlap on a digital map and the position precision is 10 to 15 m.
GPS is a free service, the information about the position are offered by 24 satellites around Earth and can give the position of the GPS receiver using longitude, latitude and altitude.
Although it had been established in United States of America of military applications, the information were been published and free, finding their way in navigation, surveillance, so that the received position from GPS is transformed in a needful support for navigation: on earth, on water or by air.
The navigation system, traded by the name of “navigator” or simply GPS, is the device which receives information from satellites, and with the help of a special program which contains a digital map with roads and points of interests, interprets, transforms and transpose these information into a graphic interface.
The device was created for offering suggestions regarding the itinerary, use this device just for helping in orientation, do not try to use the device in other intentions which impose the precise measuring of the distance, direction, location, do not use this product to determinate the terrestrial proximity for air routes.
This device can present closed roads or road background, agglomeration traffic using a suply service named TMC ( Traffic Maessage Channel), but it can not deliver information regarding weather forecast or other factors which can afect safety and driving time.
Important!!!
Do not confuse GPS with GPRS (General Packet Radio Service) because, the last is the way to transmit and receive dates by mobile phone. GPRS makes possible the permanent connection with Internet by mobile network, not by satellites network.
